Green DiSC: defining data storage scope as a central team

Hi folks,

I’m part of the e-Research (i.e. research computing) department at King’s College London. We are preparing a Green DiSC application in collaboration with our central Sustainability in Research team, and we provide HPC and research data storage services to researchers across the university, so we are planning to apply as a central team.

My question is about how to define “centrally-managed” data storage. We provide storage for ongoing research projects, as well as scratch space on the HPC, but this is not really actively managed by us beyond the initial space quota per project (e.g. scratch storage isn’t limited to 30 days like it is in some places). There’s also data storage via Sharepoint provided by central IT, but we don’t think this is within the scope of our application.

I was wondering how other central teams have gone about defining centrally-managed data storage and deciding what’s in-scope for their application?
