In a nutshell: an opportunity to highlight the great work being done in the space of sustainable computing, discuss the (big) challenges we face, and connect researchers across disciplines with an interest in sustainability. More at www.sc4rc.org
Hereβs the thing: sustainability usually gets a parallel session at research conferences. We wanted to flip that and put environmental responsibility front and centre for everyone who uses computing in their research. SC4RC was born, and Iβm delighted that the first iteration will be held in a brilliant venue such as CERN.
Why this matters: While computing plays a vital role in many areas of research and enables amazing discoveries, its significant negative impacts on the environment have become a pressing issue. SC4RC is a platform to tackle these issues across multiple domains and build an interdisciplinary community to learn, share best practices, develop common resources, and catalyse new collaborations.
Who is it for: Researchers across a wide range of disciplines (think anywhere from life sciences, physics and chemistry, to AI, sociology, ethics and the humanities) to discuss the challenges, share best practices, and showcase great efforts in this space. We need cross-pollination of ideas, not siloed solutions.
